Event description
Join artist weaver Agnis Smallwood to explore Calverley Old Hall and create a woven hanging inspired by its architecture and history.

About this event

Two half day sessions for small groups and families. Join artist weaver Agnis Smallwood to explore Calverley Old Hall and create a woven hanging inspired by its architecture and history. The workshop will take place out of doors/under a gazebo, and access to the inside of the buildings will be restricted.

Calverley Old Hall is a part ruined medieval manor house between Leeds and Bradford, soon to be restored by the Landmark Trust. In its current state, it provides a wealth inspiration for creative activity.

Artist and weaver Agnis Smallwood and Kasia Howard, Engagement Manager for the Landmark Trust will take you on a special guided tour of the site, to explore the history, the architecture and the many glimpses of colour and texture that reveal to us how the building may have been lived in and decorated throughout its 800 years. Participants will then be able to create their own woven artwork in response to the site. You will be able to take your weaving and some materials away to finish your work at home, however we will use all participants work as ideas for a permanent woven artwork which will be made for the building as part of the project to conserve it. Each and every participant will be instrumental in guiding the design of this new work.

No previous experience of the craft is necessary. This workshop is suitable for beginners.

This session is suitable for all ages and we welcome families and groups. All children under the age of 14 must be accompanied.
