Event description
Warrior Women Like Me : 'The Playful Warrior'.

About this Event

Different Women & SSE return this November with this wonderful specialist day event focusing on the playful body and healthy mind. Experience a full day of exciting women's sessions based on the art of harnessing female warrior energy in performance, once again with a focus on empowerment and enabling cultural exchange; suitable for all levels of experience in acting, dance & performance.

Through carefully curated workshops and exposure to new methodologies, you will leave with a deeper connection to your own body and mind in relation to your craft.

The morning will include: ‘The Playful Warrior’ with Ariane Barnes , power-house performer, qualified teacher and improviser (Titus Andronicus, Maroon Queen, Berenice, DIVA, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical!, RADA, FDS, Italia Conti). Through the use of African style story-telling, dance and improv we will investigate what makes our body open and receptive to being playful as performers so we are fascinating to watch- with live African drumming.

‘Capoeira For Performers’ with Nivey & Dyanna from Mestre Poncianinho's internationally acclaimed Capoeria School ‘Mojuba Capoeira.’ ( BBC, 'Cats', Bambas & Prata De Casa Festival). Through the most playful of all the warrior art forms, we will look at using the body to both communicate and create fight patterns through different uses of rhythm and movement - with live berimbau, the traditional instrument that accompanies the art of capoeira.

‘Warrior Wisdom’ , the final session has a focus on mental health & wellness , investigating and consolidating the relationships between you and your craft through meditation, introspection and sharing. We will focus on finding grace under fire to give great performances whilst being mindful of where we are emotionally- arguably the most coveted Warrior Woman trait of all !

That's a whole day of professional development run by practicing industry actors & qualified teachers, and an all BAME/LGBTQ team in a safe space for £20 pounds. That's a 75% off deal thanks to The Unknown Funds!

We strongly encourage all ethnicities and ages to attend this event to facilitate cultural exchange.

*Please Note: This is a full day of physical activity and requires a good level of fitness.*
