Description

Warwickshire Young Poet Laureate 2018 Competition Final

Saturday 20th January, 2.00pm
Warwick Library

Free to attend

Join us for final stage of the competition to find Warwickshire’s next Young Poet Laureate.

Four shortlisted candidates aged between 14 and 16 years from across the county, will compete to take on the significant and important role of Warwickshire Young Poet Laureate for 2018.

The position of Warwickshire Young Poet Laureate is unique, and will give the appointed person the chance to work with Warwickshire Library Service and take part in a selection of events across the county. The selected Young Poet Laureate will also receive a fantastic selection of poetry books, and be assigned a mentor during their laureateship to support them with their writing.

Audience members may well be looking at one of the major contemporary poets of the future! The event will be hosted by poet Roy McFarlane, and an entertaining afternoon is in store.

This event will also celebrate and mark the end of the 'Warwickshire Poetry Voices' project - a programme setup by Warwickshire Libraries to create opportunities for children, young people and adults living in Warwickshire to take part in poetry activities in their local libraries. The project has been running since 2014 and has worked with hundred of people across the county over the last 3.5 years.
