Wassail 2026

Wassail 2026

By South West Heritage Trust

Overview

Join us for the ancient custom of Wassail, traditionally observed on Old Twelfth Night.

Wassail is an ancient tradition observed on Old Twelfth Night. Warm yourself around the fire in the courtyard and join us for the main event in the museum's 14th century Abbey Barn and around the oldest apple tree in the orchard. The purpose of the ceremony is to promote a bountiful apple crop for the following year.

Les Davies MBE, will join us as Master of Ceremonies for the evening; crowning our Wassail King or Queen and blessing our cider trees. Local band Rapscallion will provide musical entertainment, whilst you warm yourself by the fire.

More Information:

The ticket price includes a glass of cider or apple juice on arrival, and a piece of apple cake. Further drinks are available to purchase on the night (cash only please). Our café will be selling tea, coffee and hot chocolate as well as a selection of cold drinks. Please note food will not be available.
