WASSAILING AT FOREST HARVEST

WASSAILING AT FOREST HARVEST

By FOREST HARVEST

Overview

All welcome to wake the trees by riotously banging pots & pans and enjoying local company with mulled apple juice from last years harvest

Wassailing is an ancient custom to bless the fruit and nut trees for last years bumper harvest, and to wake the trees for another Season. To do this we are asking folk of all ages to bring kitchen pots & pans with a serving spoon or something to bash it with to make a noise.

We meet at the carpark at Woodmill Farm (next to Paul Shum butchers, Green Door Bakery & Scrummies) at around 4:00pm for a 4:30pm start. We then proceed by walking up the road a short way (100m) before turning right into the forest Harvest carpark. We then walk through a grove to a small bridge (100m) where you can choose to either walk the labyrinth (250m) or go straight to the trees.

To bless the trees, we give all the adults a piece of toast and a splash of cider which the organisers will issue at the top of the Jubilee Orchard. This can be redistributed if you have smaller folk with you.

When we have completed this short walk and final raucous, loud, fun-filled activity, the cup given to you can be refilled with a warming mulled apple juice and a chat with fellow locals.

The walk is less than a mile but can be slippy and uneven so strong shoes and warm clothes are recommended, with a torch or headtorch advised.

We charge through Eventbrite £2.50ea per adult, children under 18 are free

This gives us an idea of numbers but if you haven’t had a chance then cash is welcome on the night.
