Waste not, want not - 2000m2 Field of Enquiry Workshop

Over 10 Saturdays, we will unearth the role of soil in our ecology and question how best to graze the grass and farm protein. We will unpack the impact of our industrialised food system on our daily bread, our nutrition and health. We will grapple with the big numbers and small actions on carbon emissions and food waste. We will assess our impact on our fellow species, whether they be walking, swimming or flying, and imagine how to better use our land.
On day 6, we turn to food waste. If food waste was a country, it would be the third largest emitter of green house gases after the USA and China. This day will focus on how we can waste less food in the field, in processing, in the shops and in our public and domestic kitchens. We will visit the rural food waste collecting and communtiy composting scheme on Whitmuir Farm and learn about the innovative ways we have been succeeding in reducing avoidable food waste and converting the rest into usable compost for future growing. We will also be sampling some great cooking with left overs. Our guides for the day will be Zero Waste Scotland and guests.
PLEASE NOTE – Our Field of Enquiry Team has a limited number of members. You can attend individual sessions, but priority places will be reserved for people who can attend the whole programme. This ticket registers your interest in becoming a member of the Field of Enquiry Team, but in order to secure a place, please tell us a bit about yourself.
