Watch The Skies - Cambridge
Event Information
Description
Watch The Skies is a Megagame - part roleplaying game, part live action event, part boardgame ...but all FUN!
Watch The Skies centers around contact with Aliens in the year 2020. Who are these mysterious beings? What do they want? Do they REALLY come in peace?
You will play as part of a team. There are teams for 8 of the world's major nations as well as a team playing the Aliens and a team playing the world media. When you buy a ticket please purchase the ticket for the team that you would like to join. The ticket description and FAQs provide more details of what each team does in the game.
FAQs
What are the roles on the nation teams?
Head of State - they co-ordinate the rest of the team and act as a point of contact with other nations
Deputy Head of State - they help the Head of State and also direct the nation's intelligence services
Chief Scientist - they research technological development for the nation
Chief of Defence - they control the nation's military forces
UN Delegate - they represent the nation at the UN meetings
Is there an age limit to enter the event?
There is no specific age limit as the game does not contain any themes or images that would be unsuitable for young adults. (Well, I suppose possible destruction of the Earth might be a bit upsetting - no matter what age you are!). However, the game involves a great deal of discussion and negotiation and as a rough guide we would suggest a minimum age of 16 to play.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There is no reserved parking for the event. It is possible (but not easy) to find some on-road parking along Mill Road. However, if you are coming by car we would suggest you use city centre parking or park-and-ride. St Philip's Church Centre is approximately 20 minutes walk from the city centre and central bus station. If you are coming by train, the good news is that the venue is only 15 minutes walk from Cambridge station.
Is my registration/ticket transferable?
Yes, if you are unable to make it to the event you can give your ticket to someone else to attend in your place.
What restrictions on accessibilty does the venue have?
Some of the game will be played in rooms that are only accessible by stairs. Players who are part of the alien and media teams along with Chiefs of Defence and UN Delegates will need to go up the stairs to access these rooms. If you need wheelchair access you will not be able to play as part of these teams or take on those specific roles. That still leaves Head of State, Deputy and Chief Scientist as possible roles and we will do our best to make sure that one of those roles is available for you in whichever nation team you choose. If you require wheelchair access you should purchase a ticket for one of the nation teams.
Is food availble at the venue?
Yes, there is a cafe attached to the Church Hall which serves hot food, beverages and other refreshments throughout the day. There is also a convenience store a short walk from the venue. Depending on how the game progresses, it can be fairly intensive experience and you may find you only have a short time to grab some refreshments. We recommend bringing a bottle of water to make sure you are hydrated throughout the day.
