Event description

Description

Join us for a debate on the challenges and opportunities of CCTV surveillance.

Surveillance is a contested issue in this age of terrorism. It can be understood as a public good, a threat, or a simple necessity. To discuss some of the implications of state and private surveillance for democratic societies, the UK Surveillance Camera Commissioner, Mr Tony Porter, and Dr Ross Bellaby, Sheffield University, will provide some introducing thoughts before we subsequently open the discussion to the public.

The event is based on an ongoing research project on CCTV, funded by Welsh Crucible. The project leaders will use the opportunity to introduce a prototype app which visualises the extent of CCTV surveillance on the university campus areas of Cardiff University and Swansea University.
