Date and time
A National Park Volunteer-led guided walk to the hamlet of Watendlath
About this event
Start point: Keswick Tourist Information Centre, Moot Hall, Keswick
Length: 12km (7.5miles) with 435m (1,427ft) of ascent
Time: 6 hours (approx.)
A moderate graded linear walk, starting with a bus ride from Keswick down the Borrowdale Valley from where a fairly steep ascent leads to the hidden hamlet of Watendlath, followed by a long descent back to Keswick.
After meeting at Keswick Information Centre, we'll catch the bus to take us to down to Rosthwaite. From there we'll climb steadily up onto the open fell, before descending steeply down to the hidden hamlet of Watendlath. A long descent, following mostly easy paths is then followed back to Keswick, passing the famous Ashness Bridge along the way.
Paths are generally good, but there are some sections which are steep and stony, both up and down, and others that will be muddy in poor weather.
Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather and bring a packed lunch.
Participants will also need to purchase their own bus ticket from Keswick to Rosthwaite. Bus fare is approx £4.50 for an adult.
