Event description

Description

Does water carry memory?

What can we learn from the continual flow of water?

How can we renew respect for water?

Inspired by this place of particular significance for water, I am proposing to gather to immerse ourselves in the flow and cycle of this element, to share water stories and to make space for absorbing new ideas.

I would like to explore the importance of pointless labour as a metaphor for life, to ask unanswerable questions, to feel the flow of water and to exchange personal stories old and new about water.

Please bring a container of your choice to hold water in, this might be a special cup or something which has significance for you or just an ordinary plastic drinking bottle.

Where to gather:

You will get more information nearer the event and we will need to share transport as there is not a lot of car parking space. If you are concerned you can email Caroline about sharing options or exact directions if you need this, otherwise we will be in touch.

We will spend approximatley two hours at the loch and then continue the conversation over lunch at Columba 1400

What to bring with you:

  • Please bring a container of your choice which can hold water
  • Sturdy walking shoes, there is a path
  • Suitable clothing, as the event is outdoors and we will go ahead even if the weather is bad

Please book by Thursday 26th April

Some context -

I am an artist investigating our changing relationship with the natural world, previously researching our tradtional use of natural materials. This event is part of a wider investigation into water, articulating through a series of events some critical contemporary issues in relation to water. I am currently studying an MA in Art and Social Practice through the UHI, based in Shetland and this event is a part of this. I am also working on a project based around water with three other artist’s; two Finnish and one other Scottish over three countries and three years. Personally I am interested in investigating the preciousness of water and how our attitude has changed in a short space of time from valuing and respecting this wonderful elusive element to not even noticing the amount we waste. I am planning, over the next year or so, to do a a variety of investigations and discussions on Skye in relation to water.
