Water Quality surveying training
Are you interested in helping to address pollution across the Colne Catchment? Join us at this surveying training event to learn how to identify potential sources of pollution and become part of our pollution source surveying initiative!
What are potential pollution sources?
Potential pollution sources are points which may release substances that may negatively effect water quality. These includes points such as outfalls, bank erosion, and road run off.
What is our pollution source surveying initiative?
We are mapping potential pollution sources across the Colne Catchment area to produce a comprehensive map of where all the points which may release pollution throughout the catchment. By doing this we are able to better identify where pollution is coming from when it is identified, and address "hotspots" of potential pollution.
About the training day:
This will be an interactive training course, where we will first discuss how we will perform the survey and what this will involve, followed by a walk and survey using mobile phones along the River Pinn. We will meet at the following point (W3W/google maps link). We suggest parking at (W3W/google maps) if you are driving to join us. You will need a mobile phone which is able to download the survey123 app to take part.
After the training day:
This is a great opportunity to learn new skills as well as become involved with contributing towards our citizen science initiatives. Following the training you will have the opportunity to sign up to particular survey routes, where you can then conduct surveys independently or in pairs to help map all potential pollution sources across the catchment!
