Water Resilience & Natural Flood Management Workshop
Event Information
About this event
Increasing volatility in weather and climate patterns means farmers and land stewards are increasingly more vulnerable to droughts and flooding, leading to higher costs both to farms and society. But what if we could play a more active role in our relationship with water?
On this course you will learn how different practices can help to manage water cycles on your land. In particular we'll take a look at the following techniques to slow, sink, spread, and stop water:
• Natural Flood Management (NFM)
• Cover-cropping and ley-cropping to keep soil covered
• Agroforestry and tree-planting
• Rain and waste water harvesting and storage
• Drip irrigation
Demonstration / Tour
We'll take a tour of FarmED to look at different water management techniques in practice on the land, and hear from the Evenlode Catchment Partnership about how you can work with your neighbours at the landscape level to coordinate and multiply the impact of your efforts. We'll also hear about what government support is available for various water management measures. Toward the end of the day we'll spend time discussing and planning how you can take action to address water management on your farm.
