Description

2 DAY COURSE

THURSDAY 19th & FRIDAY 20th JULY

1:30pm - 4:30pm

This course, taught over 2 afternoons, is focussed on using watercolours to create unique prints. You will use monoprint & drypoint techniques to scratch a texture or image into a plastic, matte finished lexan-plate. You will then use acrylic medium, stickers and tape to add other textures for special effects. The next step is applying colour to the plate with watercolour paints and/or watercolor crayons to reveal the texture or image which is then transferred to paper using our etching press. The plate can be reused, re-coloured, and over-printed for different variations.

What experience do I need?

No previous experience is needed. This course is a great first exploration in printmaking. Those with previous experience may use the course to gain an insight to a different process and gain tutor advice and guidance.

What will I make?

You will produce a series of unique watercolour prints using the monoprinting technique.

Who is my tutor?

We are pleased to welcome guest tutor Margaret Craig, Professor and Chair of Printmaking at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, Texas, where she has developed a less toxic approach to printmaking. She has received an MFA in Printmaking and exhibits nationally across the US as well as internationally. Margaret will be with us at Leeds Print Workshop throughout July for a residency where she will be developing her practice in non toxic processes.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials and equipment are provided. If you have any imagery you’d like to work from as inspiration such as a print out or book then feel free to bring this along. You may want to bring a portfolio folder to carry your prints home in (these are available to buy at the workshop).

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will refund you in full if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course, after this time no refunds will be issued. Once booked, you cannot transfer to another course.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible but, due to the nature of the building, Leeds Print Workshop is not wheelchair accessible. There is a step up into the building and four steps down to the toilets, and no accessible toilet facilities. Should you have any questions, or wish to discuss accessibility before booking, please don't hesitate to email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
