The first part of the workshop will focus on a variety of painting techniques (wet-in-wet, lost & found, softening, dry-brushing) to achieve the varying textures of still and moving water.
We will start with some quick exercises to 'loosen up', then start to build up layers and mix darker tones.
The second part of the workshop will apply these techniques to a more finished painting.
Students will need to bring their watercolour equipment. Here is a list of recommended materials :
Recommended Materials to bring
Watercolour (soft-bristled) brushes (ideally including a round brush size 10 or more, plus a rigger and a flat brush)
Watercolour paints (especially French Ultramarine, Permanent Alizarin Crimson and Cadmium Yellow)
Watercolour paper (I recommend Bockingford 'NOT' texture 200lb/425gsm, quarter imperial size)
Students may also wish to bring some landscape photographs which include water as a major element.
I will also bring some photos to work from.
