Jay’s Virtual Pub Quiz became a huge online sensation during Covid, when an amusing mishap saw hundreds of thousands of people join the small quiz he was running just for the local community. Soon, millions of people were tuning in weekly from around the globe and Jay’s humble quiz had celebrity guests such as Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross and Rick Astley. To this day, Jay’s Virtual Pub Quiz community thrives, and Jay himself has a regular quiz slot on Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. And of course, he writes all his own quiz questions!
Jay’s memoir, The Quizmaster, tells his remarkable story. Within weeks he’d gone from a down-on-his luck pub landlord in Darwen, Lancashire to a hero of lockdown who brought a sense of community into our homes. This turnaround was more incredible because, as a lost and troubled young man, Jay had spent two years homeless in London.
