About this event

Watford FC are partnering with the US kids animated show LaGolda to host the European premiere of the short film in support of LGBTQ youth on Friday 22 November at Vicarage Road. The screening will feature a special appearance from former USA and Watford defender Jay DeMerit.

The event is open to all local youth community coaches and teams, LGBTQ community groups and Watford fans who are keen to join the club in its goal to be the leading football club in supporting inclusion and diversity in football.

LaGolda is a bilingual animated series that tells the story of a spunky eight-year old Latina who has been shuffled from one orphanage to another in her native Colombia. LaGolda recruits a team of international orphans who travel the world together to play soccer, address various issues that affect children globally, and to ultimately help build a better world.

Actors Judy Reyes (“Scrubs”), Roselyn Sanchez (“Grand Hotel”) and Eric Winter (“The Rookie”) have teamed up to produce a very special short film ahead of the second season launching in 2020. Featuring Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”) and Justina Machado (“One Day at a Time”), the special film will introduce the first ever openly gay character who is a kid. Entitled “Game Changer”, the film encourages kids to accept everyone for who they are and promotes inclusiveness in football and wider society.

The screening will be held at Vicarage Road between 19:00 - 21:00 on Friday 22 November and will include:

  • Panel Q&A with Creator George Valencia, Executive Producer Judy Reyes, Watford FC Legend Jay DeMerit plus another special guest
  • 30 minute showing of the “Game Changer” film
  • The chance for all kids and coaches in attendance to take the 'Accept and Respect Pledge” to encourage everyone to practice kindness towards all people. All pledge takers will receive a LaGolda branded football to take home with them!
  • Photo opportunities with panel
  • Free food and drink

Tickets are FREE with spaces limited to 90 on a first come first serve basis so book yours soon before the event sells out.
