Event Details

Wave Engineering Bristol (WEB) seeks to bring together researchers at different stages of their career, across different Schools within the University of Bristol. The aim is to facilitate networking between colleagues from different disciplines in order to identify areas of common interest, stimulate new ideas for interdisciplinary research projects and public engagement, and provide a platform from which groups of researchers with shared interests can develop external funding bids.

We understand "wave engineering" to concern the theory and practice of the manipulation and exploitation of waves in different physical contexts to achieve useful ends. Wave engineering also embraces the broad field of modelling, analysis, design, development and testing of engineering systems with the aim of manufacturing, installing and operating systems which exhibit wave-type behaviour.

WEB Workshop 2017 provides a platform for scientists and academics in Bristol to promote, share, and discuss theory and applications of wave engineering in physical contexts including, but not restricted to, acoustics, elasticity, optics, photonics, seismology and water wave theory. The synergy between the fields could bring about new quality of activities.

The workshop will be structured to enable all attendees to take part in an open discussion. Leading scholars from different disciplines will give position statements, outlining current practice in their field and the possibilities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

The agenda for WEB 2017 is now available online. Speakers include:

Prof Mark Dennis (School of Physics), Dr Marc Holderied (School of Biological Sciences), Dr Alexander Velichko (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Dr Mihai Caleap (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Dr Nicolas Etaix (Dyson Technology Limited), Dr Erdin Ibraim (Department of Civil Engineering), Dr Benjamin Long (Ultrahaptics Ltd), Prof Martin Cryan (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering).

We have a limited number of spaces available, so register now to avoid any disappointment. If you are unable to attend please cancel your booking to allow others to book.

Free lunch, free coffee, free parking.
