Waves of Grief: A 3-Month Support Space with Guided Facilitation
Overview
About this Event (The Lead)
Grief is not a problem to be solved but a journey to be witnessed.
This is a 3-month, psychologist-led therapeutic program designed for anyone who has lost someone dear and is navigating the complex, non-linear aftermath of bereavement. Whether your loss was recent or years ago, if you feel isolated, overwhelmed, or in need of a space where you don’t have to "perform" being okay, this group is for you. Through a blend of psychoeducation, cognitive tools, and peer support, we move beyond the standard "stages of grief" to help you build a sustainable path forward.
What You Will Gain
- A Personalized Grief Map: A clearer understanding of how your grief shows up in everyday life and why it isn't a linear process.
- A Coping Toolkit: Practical techniques to manage "cognitive distortions" (guilt, blame, and the "shoulds") and intense emotional triggers.
- Emotional Resilience: Exercises in self-compassion and strengths-identification to help you feel like "yourself" again.
- A Safe Community: The unique healing that comes from a small, confidential group of people who truly "get it."
The 6-Session Curriculum
Each session is 90 minutes and takes place bi-weekly.
- Session 1: Introduction & Mapping the Journey: Setting the container of safety and confidentiality. We explore the 5 stages of grief as a fluid framework rather than a checklist.
- Session 2: Cognitive Restructuring & "The Shoulds": Identifying the automatic negative thoughts and blame that intensify suffering. You will learn to practice small, compassionate reframes.
- Session 3: Navigating Triggers & Waves: A deep-dive into the dates, places, and internal states that reactivate grief. We build an individualised plan to manage these waves when they hit.
- Session 4: Restoring Agency & Self-Efficacy: While we cannot change the loss, we can change our response. We focus on small, concrete actions that restore a sense of hope and confidence.
- Session 5: Activating Strengths & Future-Self: Reconnecting with your values and self-worth. Includes a self-compassion exercise and writing a resilience-focused letter to your future self.
- Session 6: Strengthening Resilience & Closure: Consolidating skills for the long term. We share our letters and engage in a closing ritual to honour your loved one and your personal growth.
