About this event

Discover the art of jewellery-making with Lydia Poole through the traditional technique of wax ring carving. Guided throughout the workshop, you’ll learn the basics of carving, get an insight into the ancient lost wax casting process, and create a wax model of your ring.

In this workshop, you'll use jewellers' wax—a soft, forgiving material—to design and sculpt your own ring. It’s the perfect way to experiment with shapes and ideas before they’re transformed into silver. Whether you're following your imagination or looking for a little help, demonstrations and examples will be available throughout. All levels welcome and no experience needed - just bring your curiosity!

By the end of the workshop, your unique ring design will be completed and ready for taking home or for casting into metal.

You must:

  • Be over the age of 16. Any 16/17 year olds must be accompanied by a participating, paying responsible adult aged 18+.
  • Have good eyesight and hand dexterity

What’s included

  • All materials and tools are provided
  • Demonstration and a helping hand throughout
  • Refreshments

Option to have your ring cast into metal

For an extra fee, your wax design can be sent off to be cast into silver and posted back to you, ready to wear. On the day Lydia will offer you to option to have your ring cast into metal. This is entirely optional, the wax ring you create in the workshop is sturdy enough to be worn as it is if you wish. If you would like to send your ring off to be cast into metal, there will be an additional casting fee, payable on the day directly to Lydia. This element of the workshop will be a separate agreement between yourself and Lydia, The Landmark Trust will not be involved or liable for this optional extra. The expected casting fee will be approximately £75, however this price is dependent on metal prices at the time and will be confirmed by Lydia on the day at the workshop.
