Description

In partnership with the Government Art Collection, Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture 2019 presents Ways of Seeing. Transforming the whole borough of Waltham Forest into an art gallery, Ways of Seeing displays the work of 33 internationally-known artists from the Government Art Collection in 28 unusual and unexpected venues across Chingford, Leyton, Leytonstone and Walthamstow.

On this walking tour, Dr Claire FitzGerald, Curator from the Government Art Collection will visit four locations to view the artworks that were chosen for these sites and introduce you to new ways of thinking about each artist's work.

Overview

  • Start at Walthamstow Town Square Big Screen and watch Simon Faithfull's 13
  • Walk over to Walthamstow Central Library to learn about Hew Locke's Serpent of the Nile (Sejant) (2007) and Stephen Selwyn's Pyramids (1985)
  • Walk over to One Hoe street to see John Wood and Paul Harrison's videos Ladder, Handle/Rope, Map, Lean, Slide, Platform (2000-2)
  • Head over to Town Hall for Rana Begum's sculptures: No 586 WFold, No 587 WFold, No 588 WFold, No 589 WFold (2015) with time for Q&A at the the end.
