Event description
Join us for the very first WE ARE CULT one-day convention! A fun, friendly celebration of cult TV!

About this Event

Since its launch in September 2016, We Are Cult has brought you the best in news, reviews, interviews and features relating to anything leftfield, wayward and independently minded in pop culture, with an accent on all things retro. Our following and social media response has proven that there is an audience for all things Cult, from mainstream to slipstream, and that niche is nice.

In 2019, We Are Cult is taking it to the next level, with its first convention, a one-day event in Bristol this June, where we will present a series of informal, intimate panels with writers, actors and creators from the worlds of cult film and television, including a few surprises along the way.

Guests are comedy writers Andrew Marshall (End Of Part One, 2 point 4 Children, Strange) and Rob Grant (Spitting Image, Red Dwarf) in conversation with comedy historian Jem Roberts, official chronicler of Douglas Adams, Fry & Laurie and the ‘Blackadder’ saga; writer, producer, director and former actor Gary Russell looking back on The Phoenix and the Carpet (1976), The Famous Five (1978) and Look & Read: Dark Towers (1981) in conversation with Anthony Townsend; a special screening with award-winning documentary-maker and Big Finish writer Chris Chapman; a ‘live’ edition of the ‘Review of Death‘ Doctor Who podcast; We Sound Familiar, a comedy podcast from impressionists Peter Walsh, Elliott Crossley and Chris Walker-Thomson; an interview with Stephen Volk, writer of Ghostwatch; Actor, writer and director Chris Jury, best known as 'Eric' from Lovejoy, and 'Deadbeat' in the Doctor Who serial 'The Greatest Show in the Galaxy'; and a special, exciting, surprise mystery guest.

On hand with merchandise stalls will be Candy Jar Publishing, home of the Lethbridge-Stewart books, with writers Nick Walters and Andy Frankham-Allen, and artist Sophie Iles, whose work has appeared in DWM, BBC’s Anglophena’s DoctorWho TV, The Time Travel Nexus, Cosmic Masque & multiple charity works.

Your host will be Sam Michael, stand-up comedian and Kennet Radio DJ. Sponsors include Paper Dragon Publishing.
