In this one day session you will learn the basic skills of how to make people laugh as someone else, or, stand up dressed up.
On November 30th We Are Funny Dalston will stage a special "Character Comedy" themed night and students will be invited to perform at that show, or the next one planned for early in New Year.
Either way, students will get priority booking for a 5 spot at an open mic night soon after so that they can apply some of what they have learned.
The price is £65 for the day Workshop and includes pub meal and a drink, pint or glass of wine.
This day is designed to help and direct existing character acts that might need some development and polish, alongside those looking to try it for the very first time.
You will learn how to:
· Create a character
· Develop material
· Remain in character
· Perform live
The class is taught by stand up comedian, podcaster and heavy metal singer Howard Smith. He brings a wealth of comedy and entertainment experience with him having performed stand up for 16 years and as character Keith Platt – Professional Yorkshireman for 9 of those years.
Howard/Keith have toured all over the UK from some of the toughest pubs to cultured comedy clubs and finding a particularly warm welcome at festivals, Download, Brighton’s Best Of Fringe, Bloodstock, Beautiful Days and Farm Fest.
Howard has also written for and appeared in various BBC Radio & TV productions.

Andy Stedman Really enjoyed the day, Howard was a great person to have run it and I learnt a lot. Cheers guys!
Kelvin Green Wasn't sure if I character comedy was my thing, then thought mm, I'm unfunny at stand up, why not a character act? But no, Howard led a genuinely informative, funny day. Learnt loads from him and would say, don't let your own prejudices about character comedy get in the way of this, excellent and packed day. Thanks, Alfie and Howard and fellow students. Now where 's those damn bells and hump. X
Brian Cowles Just done this course and I would recommend it to anyone who is into or thinking of starting to do Character comedy. Howard was a great instructor and the day was really fun as well.
Howell James Highly recommended. Howard ('Keith') is a very experienced comedian who performs and MCs in and out of character. He was a great teacher on the day ready to share what he has learned on the pro circuit. This was an excellent learning experience not just for those wishing to develop a character but also
for acts who want to get focussed advice and tips from a top class circuit comedian.
