Event description

Description

Women represent 80% of the workforce in the garment industry in Bangladesh. They are often abused, harassed and deprived of their basic rights at work. How can we better protect them and assist them to improve their own protection?

Speakers and participants will discuss dignified work in Bangladesh and the importance of the current negotiations on the ILO Convention to end Gender-Based Violence in the workplace. How does the Bangladesh case and the global discussion relate to the EU’s work on sustainable garment value chains?

The debate will be introduced by a movie on the OIKKO project which aims to empower female garment workers in Bangladesh through specific trainings based on literacy classes and awareness raising of workers’ rights.
