A weekend of walking in the beautiful Great Langdale Valley, Lake District.

About this Event

Hiya!

My Name is Nicola, I'm hosting this event to gather like minded outdoor loving folk together for a couple of walks in my favourite place, Great Langdale.

There will be two walks, both a different fitness/ability levels.

Disclaimer: I am NOT Mountain Leader or outdoor First Aid Trained.. I have however done these walks several times and know this area very well. Please attend the walks based on your fitness/ability level, and also you are ultimately responsible for your own wellbeing and safety. Thank you.

Walk one will be held on Saturday 5th October 2019 at 10am , this will start at the meeting point of the Stickle Ghyll National Trust car park, we will walk up to Stikle Tarn then continue on from there around the Langdale pikes starting with Pavey Ark (700m), Harrison Stickle (736m), Loft Crag (682m) and finally Pike O Stickle (709m) then we will descend via Thorn Crag. This walk, on a clear day (fingers crossed for us!) gives some of the best views, not only of the Langdale Valley, but of the surrounding areas and even as far as the Northern Fells. It involves steep walking sections, scrambling and crossing water (usually stepping stones aroung but this is dependent on water levels). A fantastic walk that will get the heart pumping and the legs burning.

Walk two will be held on Sunday 6th October 2019 at 11am, it is split in to two parts. Firstly we will meet at Blea Tarn National Trust Car park, crossing over the road we begin our walk around the beautiful Blea Tarn, taking in stunning scenery of the surrounding Fells, and looking across the water to the Langdale pikes and have a wander through the woods too! The path is mainly flat gravel, but there is a rocky section towards the end of the trail. Then we decsend via a path starting at the foot of Side Pike and drop down in to the valley. We will then walk through the Oxendale Valley, and make a slight ascent to Whorneyside Force which is a stunning waterfall at the bottom of Hell Gill. The terrain on this part of the walk is a mix of slightly steep ascent/descent, rocky paths, and a little careful effort required on the final push to the waterfall but no scrambling involved (I took my 67 year old Mum here and she managed it).

Tickets are FREE and are as follows: Langdale Weekend Pass, Langdale Pass WALK ONE SAT, Langale Pass WALK TWO SUN. If you are attending, please only select the walk you require so I can have a rough idea of who is coming on what days, Thank You!

The weather is so far, forecasted sunshine with some clouds, around 15 degrees both days ( temperature will always be colder on the Fell tops ) and as always in the Lake District - a chance of rain!

Items to bring: Food, we will stop for lunch and but always bring additional snacks to keep the eneergy levels up, drink (water! ..we will save the beers for the pub at the end of each walk!), good walking boots, waterproofs & layers to keep warm including a hat and gloves, walking poles if you have them and any other items you would usually take on a walk.

Accomodation is available in the Landale area in the form of Hotels and Camp sites for those wanting to attending both walks and stay overnight. Great Langdale can be accessed by the Stagecoach 516 service to Dungeon Ghyll - please check the stagecoach website for bus times and locations.

These walks are for people who love to be outside walking and meeting new people. So lets do both and hopefully have a brilliant couple of days! If anyone has any questions please contact me via EMAIL ONLY - shefindsherway@hotmail.com

Hopefully see you there!

Nic <3
