WEA Book Groups
Fri, 27 Jan 2017, 10:30 – Fri, 24 Mar 2017, 12:30 GMT
Book Talk & Exploring Books are friendly tutor led reading groups, run under the auspices of the WEA (Workers Education Association).
Both groups meet in Edinburgh Central Library during term-time, Book Talk on Wednesday afternoons 2-4pm starting 25th January, and Exploring Books on Friday mornings 10.30-12.30 starting 27th January. The Autumn and Spring terms are each 9 weeks, and the Summer Term is 8 weeks.
Books are chosen by democratic vote of the members of both groups and are mostly fiction; 4 books a term (2 weeks each book), plus one short story (Autumn and Spring terms).
Each group is self managing with Chair and Treasurer.
The WEA provides support for our group and other adult education classes. The tutor is Wendy Pearson, who is employed by the WEA.
The books for the 2017 Spring term are:
Imagined Corners, Willa Muir (weeks 1 & 2)
'Short Story' week - the poetry of the songs of Bob Dylan
Lives of others, Neel Mukherjee (weeks 4 & 5)
Sweet Tooth, Ian McEwan (weeks 6 & 7)
Red Dust Road, Jackie Kay (weeks 8 & 9)
Carry over book for Term 3 (April-June) – Silas Marner, George Elliott - the remaining books for Term 3, plus the carry over book for the Autumn 2017 term, will be chosen on week 3
There is a subscription each term to cover the basic running costs of the groups. Prospective new members may attend the first meeting without financial obligation. Payment is requested only if they wish to continue attending meetings. A reduced fee can be offered to new members starting part-way through the term.
Places are limited and available on a 'first come, first served' basis. For more information please email email@example.com
