Guest Speaker - Sugata Mitra
We are delighted to announce that TED prize winner, Professor Sugata Mitra will be delivering this year's William Alderson Memorial Trust Lecture on Self Organised Learning Environments (SOLE's).
Sugata Mitra is Professor of Educational Technology at the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, UK.
Sugata Mitra and his colleagues have carried out research for over 13 years on the nature of self-organised learning: how it works, to what extent, and the role of adults in encouraging it. His innovative and bold efforts towards advancing learning for students all over the world earned him the first-ever $1 million dollar TED Prize.
This year, our educational workshops will be putting you in the driving seat. Using the SOLE approach you’ll have two hours to explore ‘Big Questions’ that promote critical thinking . By gathering, sharing and discussing thoughts and ideas you’ll contribute to your groups collective knowledge to provide a summary of your findings to
the other delegates This creative approach to learning is sure to create an environment that promotes your curiosity.

Voting at the WEA Yorkshire & Humber Region AGM
All members who are registered before Monday 31 October 2016 will be eligible for a vote based on the rules below:
"Every WEA member of good standing who is resident in or associated with the Region or any of its Branches, or other voluntary structure or group recognised by the Regional Committee, shall be entitled to attend, speak and vote at any Regional Annual General Meeting. Members of staff are also encouraged to attend as non-voting participants with speaking rights". Quoted from the Yorkshire & Humber Regional Statement of Representation.
For the purposes of allocating voting cards at the meeting, a staff member is someone who is employed by the WEA who earns over £2912.00 a year (see clause 13 of the WEA Branch Financial Regulations).
