Wealth Planning and Succession Planning within Construction Companies

BDO Northern Ireland will host a morning seminar for CEF members who would like to know more about options regarding their personal wealth planning, including pensions as well as information regarding succession planning within their business and the issues that they may face during this process.
BDO Partner Alex Ward and Consultant Michael Stevenson will discuss “Pensions – A Powerful Planning Tool for the 21st Century and Beyond”.
BDO Partner and family owned business specialist, Maybeth Shaw will be exploring and considering the key themes and components affecting Succession Management in Family Owned Businesses. This will allow CEF members to reflect on their situation within their business and provide food for thought on how you might begin to address the subject.

Alex Ward Partner at BDO Northern Ireland
Alex is a Partner in the Tax & Wealth Management Department within BDO Northern Ireland. He is a Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and is a qualified Chartered Financial Planner.
Alex is responsible for providing day-to-day Pension and Wealth Management advice to BDO's NI clients. Alex's key areas of expertise include Bespoke Pension Planning, including property purchases, finance and International Pension Planning including Qualifying Non UK Pension Schemes (QNUPS) and International Annuities. Alex leads the Private Client Tax and Wealth Planning team, advising high net worth individuals and their families on a broad range of topics including succession, structuring and pensions.
Michael Stevenson, Consultant at BDO Northern Ireland
Michael’s role at BDO involves assisting the BDO Wealth Management team and employers with technical support in respect of UK registered pension schemes and Auto Enrolment obligations. Michael has worked with BDO for 4 years providing technical assistance. Prior to BDO he worked for 34 years with a FTSE 100 Life & Pension company focusing on the design and implementation of group defined contribution schemes.
He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and an Associate of the Personal Finance Society.
Maybeth Shaw, Partner at BDO Northern Ireland
Maybeth is a Tax Partner with BDO. She joined the firm in September 1998 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2000. Maybeth worked in general practice for 3 years before specialising in corporation and capital taxes planning.
Maybeth specialises in providing corporation tax compliance and consultancy advice, capital gains tax planning and inheritance tax planning. She works with clients across a broad spectrum of sectors including property, leisure and hospitality, manufacturing and food services. Whilst her clients have various sizes and ownership structures, Maybeth’s focus is on advising Family Owned Businesses on the wide ranging and complex tax and financial issues that they face such as Succession Planning, Estate Planning, and management of the family wealth including the use of various forms of Trusts.
Cancellations made within 7 working days of the course/seminar start date are subject to a 50% cancellation fee. Cancellations made within 5 working days are subject to a 100% cancellation fee. All cancellations must be notified to Construction Federation Services in writing. Email notifications are acceptable. A telephone message is not sufficient as a notice to cancel. Delegate substitutions are welcome. If delegates do not attend a course/seminar without giving a notice of cancellation within the appropriate timeframe, no refund will be given.
