Weathervane: We Not I

As COP27 approaches and millions of young people once again hold their breath for meaningful political action, how do we create space for King’s students to share their climate hopes and fears, their dreams for a just and sustainable future?

Weathervane: We Not I is a joyful showcase of climate-inspired art and creative research, a student-led call to action from the Great Hall on Strand Campus, featuring the live creation of a participatory art installation led by environmental artist Beccy McCray, plus a talk from guest speaker Simmone Ahiaku.

The creation of We Are A Sea, a live unfolding mass participatory artwork led by artist Beccy McCray exploring our relationship to water through the mixing of plant dyes. Come along to get involved in creating this artwork!

Refreshments will be provided. Open to all King’s students and staff, however space is limited. RSVP via Eventbrite.

Simmone Ahiaku

Guest speaker

Simmone is a campaigner, facilitator and writer who has contributed to environmental, social and cultural work in Bristol, London and across the UK. Simmone has worked on air pollution, divestment and climate justice campaigns. She currently uses facilitated workshops to explore climate colonialism, and examples of climate resistance and movements from the past and present day.

Beccy McCray

Artist

Beccy McCray explores playful, interdisciplinary, socially engaged art and design using whatever media necessary to create human moments and imaginative acts of resistance. She seeks to break down boundaries between art, activism, and everyday life. For more than a decade Beccy has been inspiring change at grass roots level, creating a positive vision of a more sustainable, joyful, and socially just future.
