Description

"The history of women and textiles is about more than mending and sewing clothes. Our stitches are embedded with a heritage of female protest and activism"

Wendy Syfret

PRO CHOICE BANNER MAKING AND T-SHIRT PRINTING

On May the 25th 2018 Ireland will hold a referendum where the Irish people will have the chance to repeal the 8th amendment. This amendmen created a constitutional recognition of right to life of the unborn, thereby restricting legislation for abortion to circumstances where the life of a pregnant woman was at risk.

This workshop aims to create a space to learn new textiles processes such as weaving and screen printing whilst using these new found skills to express, visualise and voice the importance of 'pro choice' through making.

Weave for Choice:

Frame looms will be provided along with weaving tools and materials to create your own pro choice tapestry. Textile designer Áine Byrne will lead you through the process of weaving on a frame loom and how to weave text into your piece. weaving is time consuming so if you haven't finished in the time allocated, you can take your frame and materials home with you to finish.

Screen Printing for Repeal:

Plain t-shirts will be provided as well as blank silk screens. You will learn how to create your own pro choice stencil and screen print your own t-shirt demonstrated by print designer Niamh Burgess.

More activities to be anounced shortly.....

This workshop is suitable for all ages and skill levels!

n line with rules around referendum funding, money from donations from Irish citizens will go towards Together 4 Yes. Money from non-irish citizens will go towards the Abortion Support Network -
