About this event

Weave your own Zarzo basket

Create your own square/rectangle Zarzo style basket - a fun and satisfying style for a first basket, or join us to practice a new approach to your existing weaving skills.

These rather funky looking baskets, are actually traditionally from Catalonia where the linear style weaves made them good for draining cheese!

This style however, is also great for playing with colour and creating a striking basket - and is a great way to use willow in different ways - AND is suitable for all levels and experience of willow weaving.

About the venue

This is a unique willow weaving experience, as we will be weaving right next to the herds of alpacas that live at Oak Tree Farm! There is also a beautiful garden and surrounding woodland.

We expect to be weaving outside within sight of the alpacas. There is some shelter if the weather is really bad - but dress for the outdoors.

There is a small car park at the Farm, parking is free.

The workshop format

This is a practical session, in a small group of up to 6 participants so you you will have lots of support and guidance throughout.

The session is lightly structured - you will be guided through each stage, but with the expectation that everyone will work at a slightly different pace. Support is available throughout.

Refreshments

Bring your own packed lunch but leave space for Oak Tree Farm's signature Herb Tea and Cake which is included in this workshop. Check out the menu here: Time for Tea?

Basic hot drinks also available throughout the workshop.

Considerations for participants

All tools and materials will be provided and are included in the course fee. Some strength in the hands and fingers are needed to work with willow, but help and guidance is always available if needed. Lucy is happy to discuss any adjustments that may work for you in advance – email willowknots@gmail.com

Please note that booking for this workshop ends 1 week before the session itself, so we can prepare the coreect amount of willow!

All materials and tools will be provided, and Lucy will happily introduce the preparation an varieties of willow should you want to try it yourself at home.
