Developing writing techniques: This is one of a series of three webinars to discuss and identify techniques and good practice in researcher writing, to help you identify approaches that will work your discipline and your personal preferences.

Each webinar can be taken on its own or as a series. The materials closely duplicate that present in the webinars on research writing presented in past years.

3. Developing writing techniques - The editing process

This webinar will focus on the middle and later stages of the writing process, to identify techniques to help you improve the clarity and fluency of your writing and to communicate your research effectively. We will consider various approaches to the editing process, from a top level viewpoint down to sentence flow and consider approaches to gain constructive feedback.

The session will be supplemented with small group discussions to enable you to share ideas and good practice from peers from across the University.

We expect to cover the following topics:

• Developing an effective system for editing

• Approaches to review the entire document

• Improving your language to improve the fluency of your text

• Using language to communicate you research effectively

• Ways to gain constructive feedback.

The session will not cover referencing or copyright for which you are recommended to view advice from the Library.

Pre-work preparation: please come to the webinar with a published article from your area of research for comparison in our group discussions.
