Since the 2nd December 2024, local authorities in England have the power to hold rental auctions to let vacant high-street premises. By granting these new powers, the government hopes “to breathe new life back into high streets and transform long-term empty shops”.

Make CIC is running a trailblazer project to bring forward Highstreet Rental Auctions in Birkenhead, with the aim of understanding the process and sharing findings, to support the use of auctions across the Liverpool City Region.
