Webinar: Integrating the SDGs with Rachel McEwen, Chief Sustainability Offi...
Event Information
Description
In September 2015, the UK joined the other 192 Member States of the United Nations in adopting a plan to achieve a better future for all - laying out a path over the next 15 years to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect our planet. At the heart of the UN’s Agenda 2030 are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)[1] which clearly define the world we want - applying to all nations and leaving no one behind.
Realising the Goals will require all players to champion this agenda – governments, civil society, academia, and particularly the business community. Supporting the Goals presents a vital opportunity for business to regain the trust of its stakeholders and society in general, but the Goals also represent a compelling growth strategy for business. A report from the Business & Sustainable Development Commission, Better Business, Better World[2], shows how pursuing the Global Goals could raise trillions in new market opportunities.
The SDG Compass was launched in 2015 by UNGC, GRI, and WBCSD to support businesses in making meaningful contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals. It consists of five steps:
-
Understanding the SDGs
-
Defining Priorities
-
Setting Targets
-
Integration
-
Reporting & Communication
The next webinar in the series, Integrating the SDGs will feature a conversation with Rachel McEwen, Chief Sustainability Officer, SSE. We will review the recommendations in the SDG Compass and learn about SSE's approach to the Global Goals.
