Webinar: Resilience of the UK food system regarding demand for soy
Event Information
About this event
This event marks the launch of a new policy and practice brief, Resilience of the UK food system regarding demand for soy from the Resilience of the UK Food System in a Global Context research programme.
In recent decades soy has emerged as a critical agricultural commodity for the UK - particularly for the livestock industry - but it is almost exclusively grown overseas. Attendees of this webinar can learn:
- how dependent the UK is on soy
- which risks UK industry are exposed to
- how prepared sectors are to deal with these risks.
In the short term, the most immediate risk to UK industry is that associated with tropical deforestation, but in the longer term other impacts - such as those from climate change - may emerge. There are various opportunities for industry actors to respond to the risks associated with soy, and - whilst not without their challenges - these include coordinating demand for additional information on sourcing patterns, along with exploration of alternative feedstuffs for the meat industry.
This event will outline the recommendations from the brief with a chance for Q&A and discussion on the key points.
