As can be deduced from the title of his presentation Peter has a passion for promoting a better understanding of how engineering and technology are fundamental to developing and supporting civil society. In the developed world we live generally, safe, comfortable and rewarding lives due to the availability of technology, while in the developing world engineering has dramatically improved the overall progress of humanity, and is improving both life expectancy and quality of life.

Our speaker is Peter Noble, President and Principal Advisor, Noble Associates Inc.

Peter Noble is a naval architect, marine and ocean engineer with a wide range of experience in the maritime and offshore sectors. His career began as an apprentice draughtsman at Denny Bros. shipyard while attending the University of Glasgow. Peter’s professional accomplishments have been widely recognized including; the SNAME 2006, Admiral Jerry Land Medal for "Outstanding Accomplishment in the Marine Field", the 2009 OTC Individual Distinguished Achievement Award “for his contribution to innovative marine vehicle and floating system design and engineering, including LNG vessel design, Arctic Engineering and icebreaker technology and for his dedication to encouraging and mentoring students and younger professionals.” Peter is currently based in Texas and undertakes consulting and advisory assignments internationally in the fields of maritime, offshore, and arctic technology as well as engaging in lecturing and supporting student and young professional activities on a global basis and in his spare time pursues his interest in small craft, particularly indigenous craft. Peter is currently a vice president of IMarEST and he is a past president of the SNAME. He currently serves on the advisory boards of a number of marine and offshore companies, technical institutions and universities, in the US, the UK, Canada and Singapore.
