About this event

Government • National Security

Neil Woods served as a police officer for 23 years, much of that time working undercover between 1993 and 2007. A former Detective Sergeant and drugs expert, Neil resigned in 2011 and went on to become a leading voice in the international drug policy reform movement.

He is the author of two acclaimed books, Good Cop Bad War and Drug Wars (with JS Rafaeli), and his writing has appeared in outlets including The Guardian and The Independent. Neil is also a frequent commentator across global media and social platforms.

In this session, Neil will explore how six decades of drug policy have not only made society more dangerous but also pose risks to wider global security and even the climate. He will highlight well-evidenced solutions, including those with particular relevance to the security sector.
