About this event
Explore the fantastical world of Dungeons and Dragons with our unforgettable weekly one shots. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience, and if you're new to the game, this is the perfect space to learn how to play!
(Please note that, while this event is free, you will be responsible for covering your own table costs at the venue. This will be £7.50 per person attending. Thank you!)
What you need to play
We provide everything you need to play the game. We have the books, character sheets, pens and paper, and even dice for you to borrow. Though, you are very welcome to bring your own if you have any of these.
What to expect
At The Critical Hit Club, we run lighthearted adventures that are fun and full of fantasy. We like to have a laugh at the table and don't take ourselves too seriously. Above all, we just want to have fun.
You can always expect a welcoming atmosphere, especially if you are new, because we want everyone to feel comfortable and have a great time at the table.
What is a One Shot?
This type of event is known as a one shot game, that means the adventure will only last for a single session. This is great for people who are looking to try D&D, or just want a commitment-free space to play where they can drop in and out of games while continuing to play the same character.
The Setting
All of our adventures taking place in the Kingdom of Wizardlocke, a place wrought with magical nonsense and ruled over by the tyrannical Wizard King Kanoraz. Every year, Kanoraz hosts a tournament and invites adventurers from around the world. You are one of these adventurers. You've come to Wizardlocke to compete for fame, fortune, and a mysterious prize. You'll complete challenging quests, fight powerful monsters, and solve big mysteries in a bid to be the winner of this year's tournament.
Creating your own Character
You are very welcome to create your own character before the game, although we do provide pregenerated characters for your use, and we can help you build your own character if you arrive early at the event. If you want to make your own character, just follow these guidlines:
- You can use the 2024 Player's Handbook to create your characters (that's the book with the same cover as this event's cover).
- Your character can start at level 3; though, if you are new to Dungeons and Dragons, we'd recommend starting at level 1.
- To generate your scores, you can either use the Standard Array, or you can roll your scores randomly as long as you make your rolls in front of a moderator for The Critical Hit Club.
- You are allowed to multiclass, as long as your meet the prerequisites.
- You gain any starting equipment or gold from both your class and your background, and you can spend any gold you have on mundane items from the Player's Handbook outside of the game.
Final thoughts...
If you have any questions about building your characters or about the game or event in general, don't hestiate to send us a message! We will aim to answer your questions as quickly as possible.
