Join us for a 'Wednesday Wainwright' hosted by Tina @tina.codling.mountain.leader
DISTANCE : 15km with around 900m of ascent and descent.
DURATION: Around 6 hours depending on the pace of the group, the weather and how many stops we have!
MEETING : 9am start time from Mungrisdale Village Hall parking area (honesty box).
COST : FREE (but please consider a small charitable donation to Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team on the day, see note below).
WALK DESCRIPTION:
PLEASE NOTE: this is longer than our usual Wednesday Wainwright...but we will be bagging three Wainwrights.
We start with a steep ascent onto Bowscale Fell (702m), then walk across to Bannerdale Crags (683m) before going up to the summit of Blencathra.
All welcome, but you should be fit enough to walk for around 6 hours on uneven, mountainous terrain. Both the ascent and descent are steep in places but the walk will be at a gentle pace with plenty of pauses to look at the views. And we will stop for snacks/lunch.
PLEASE BRING:
Lunch and snacks
Water/drink of choice. It would be a good idea to bring a hot drink.
Good walking boots/shoes, comfortable clothing (not jeans), a waterproof jacket and trousers and hats/gloves/extra layers/sunscreen. Walking poles may be useful.
Any medication you may need.
Please note, if the weather is bad Tina may change the route or cancel the walk.
Wonderful Wild Women are fundraising for a number of charities in 2025. Tina will again be collecting cash donations for Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team at her walks this year with the aim of raising £100 to say thank you for coming to our assistance when one of our walkers slipped and broke her ankle. There is absolutely no obligation to donate but if you can spare a pound or two, or even a few pennies, please throw something in the pot.
Tina is a qualified mountain leader but is leading this walk on a voluntary basis.
