Lincolnshire, United Kingdom
Main release of tickets now available!!!
(NOTE - We have a group booking feature to allow you to book with your friends and see who is coming. Feel free to use it if you wish. If not simply use the "Participate as an individual" tab.)
Weekend at the Asylum is now the longest running steampunk event in the World and attracts people from around the globe. Thousands of splendidly dressed steampunks now throng the streets of the historic quarter of Lincoln each year enjoying everything steampunk but above all socialising.
Our venues include the historic Castle, the Regency splendour of the Assembly Rooms, and the superb professional theatre at Bishop Grossteste University. In 2013 we were delighted to add Westgate Academy to our venues thus enabling us to support a local school. Of course all of the local bars, restaurants and shops are filled with steampunks for the three days celebration of simply "Being Splendid".
Tickets are divided into two areas. Wristbands and Evenings. You need a wristband to enter the day features of the event - often known as the Convivial. This gives you access to our literary strand with steampunks authors, artists etc, plus art exhibition and competition, the fun in the Castle, our Bazaar Eclectica (the largest wholly steampunk market in the World) our gaming stream and our programme of talks, workshops and presentations. You also get access to the featured events - opening and closing features, costume competition, parades and tea duelling championship.
Evening entertainments (and the Mad Hatter's tea party) are all ticketed separately. This means you can choose what you want to attend and tailor your weekend to your own tastes. Italso allows us to offer more spaces for more steampunks since the event is hugely popular.
Tickets are being released in phases. The early bird tickets all sold out. This main release has more wristbands (we are holding day and weekend wristbands to the same price as 2013. We hope that meets with your approval) along with tickets for more evening features We will be releasing tickets for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and Sunday evening Dead Dog party along with a couple of additional evening features towards the end of April.
The EMPIRE BALL - is the glittering highlight of the steampunk year. It is THE place to be seen in your finery. This year we will have more dancing for the first half of the evening with live music and a DJ for the latter half. The Ball ticket includes a supper. We have just a handful of tickets left for this. These are for tables in the quieter Tennyson Suite. (There is no PA in the Tennyson suite so you may find conversation easier.) Of course all guests can dance in the main ballroom, watch the acts etc.
Keep checking back. Information is regularly circulated on "British Steampunk Community" on facebook and through the VSS main website www.britishsteampunk.org
We look forward to seeing you there for another fantastic weekend of Steampunk!
(Please note under 5s go free but must be accompanied by an adult.)
Sorry but we cannot ordinarily refund tickets unless the event is cancelled. We do allow people to sell on tickets as long as this is at face value or less. Profiteering etc is strictly forbidden and can result in tickets being cancelled without refund. (This means if you pay over the odds for a ticket you may find it is invalid!) If you do sell on your ticket pass on your e-ticket to the new buyer and let them have a covering note from you confirming the transfer. Include a mobile number so we can check with you if there is a problem at the event.
When & Where
The Victorian Steampunk Society
The Victorian Steampunk Society was formed in 2009 to facilitate and promote steampunk within the UK. We are involved in art exhibitions, education programmes, cultural events and conventions, even flashmobs and picnics. We run not for profit and make annual donations to selected charities. We are run by a small group of active steampunks for the steampunk community.
We also run some pretty major events of our own. "Weekend at the Asylum" is the biggest steampunk festival in Europe. Each year we take over the historic quarter of the City of Lincoln with thousands of steampunks enjoying socialising, literature, art, music, dance and just plain fun. We also run a smaller annual event "Steampunk at the Seaside" where we take over a holiday camp for a long weekend of steampunk fun.
