About this event

Hobbies • Knitting

Join us for a transformative workshop that redefines mending as a bold statement of sustainability and aesthetic beauty. Once associated with poverty, the art of repair tells a powerful narrative, with holes and frayed surfaces symbolising broken systems and emotional trauma. In this session, we’ll explore how the act of repair serves as a metaphor for mental healing through the visual language of textiles.

Throughout the workshop, you'll learn essential repair skills, including standard and reversed patches, strengthening stitches, and various darning techniques—such as darning knitwear, Swiss darning, and simple pattern weaving. We will also delve into the work of artists who are pushing the creative boundaries of repair, inspiring you to think outside the box.

Experimentation is highly encouraged! Whether you choose to repair your pieces in a discreet or celebratory manner, you will leave the class with a collection of samples or beautifully repaired textile objects. This workshop is suitable for all abilities and is perfect for anyone interested in textiles, whether for practical use or artistic expression.
