Weekend Pottery Throwing Course

Come join Imogen at Moon Studio Ceramics for a fun-filled weekend learning the traditional craft of throwing pots on a wheel!

On the first day we start with the foundations – how to prepare, centre and shape clay. Each potter will have their own wheel to work on, and there will be demos of techniques throughout.

You will be guided step by step through the process of throwing cylinders (cups), advancing onto shaping bowls before lunch. In the afternoon you’ll learn how to create different forms including jugs with spouts. You’ll be encouraged to work at your own pace, practicing to create your perfect pots!

Day two your pots will be dry and ready to tidy up. Learn how to trim and turn foot rings using various tools. There will also be the opportunity to throw a few more practice pieces.

At the end of the weekend you’ll have made all sorts of pots, and choose your top three to be glazed and fired. This course really immerses you in the making process; you’ll progress and feel a sense of acheivement by the end, complete with your own hand crafted pottery.

The fee is £260 per person for the two days. The £60 deposit secures your place and will be deducted from the total.

  • Complimentary light refreshments, bring a packed lunch. The Lamb Inn pub and Sopley Farm Bakery are a 5 min drive away.
  • Class sizes are small & sociable with a maximum of seven students per group, ensuring plenty of tuition. Courses are suitable for over 16’s only.
  • Dress for mess! Bring a small hand towel, and apron if you have one. Studio apron hire is available. Short fingernails and flat, enclosed shoes are recommended.
  • Your pottery will be glazed fired and ready for you to collect 6-8 weeks later. Delivery can be arranged for P&P costs if more convenient.
