"I had never tried meditation before, but was keen to give it a go after a particularly stressful time. I was looking for something different, some ‘me time’ where I could focus on my well being in a relaxing group setting.
I came to my first open meditation session with John in early 2013 with no expectations. I was amazed at the effect it had on me. It left me feeling more relaxed than I had been in a long time. I found the accepting, encouraging approach of John put me at ease. I realized there was no right or wrong way to meditate and absolutely loved the guided meditations and relaxed atmosphere. Since then I have become a regular meditator and the benefits have been amazing."

Experienced Meditation Tutor, John Patching, is now running Open Meditation Sessions at Orchard House, Portway, Wantage. Open Meditation Sessions are specifically designed for all, beginners and regular mediators’. If you would like to experience the benefits of meditation this article is for you.

What happens at a group meditation session?

At open meditation, the session is very relaxed. When you arrive you will be invited to find a space in the room. We start with some breathing exercises to help everyone relax. After that there will be a few short meditations. These will either be guided or mindfulness-based and will focus on visualisation, the breath and body, and may include listening to music, meditating on a word, phrase or natural object.

How will I feel after open meditation?

After the session you are likely to feel a deep sense of calm and relaxation, which can be extremely refreshing and recharging. The meditations are designed to be deeply relaxing and calming, allowing you to let go of any anxieties and concerns. You will gradually notice a sense of inner peace and well-being after continued practice.

Do I need to come every week?

How often you come is completely up to you, but if you are able to commit to regular meditation, you will notice that over time you become more able to handle life's stresses.
