About this event

Welcome Festival - Get Connected! 🎉

This event is your chance to Get Connected with Student Wellbeing and Disability Advice support to help you thrive academically, personally, and socially.

You may have already told us about a disability, mental health condition, or learning difference either directly or through UCAS, or you may be feeling unsure about Welcome Week and starting University life – whatever the reason, you’re invited to GET CONNECTED.

🧭 What’s Happening?

Alongside the main Welcome Festival events on Gun House Green on 20 and 21 September - where you’ll find all Student Support Services and many other university and local organisations - we're also offering a smaller, quieter space hosted by Student Wellbeing and Disability Advice.

This relaxed drop-in from 10am to 3pm is the perfect opportunity to:

  • Meet our friendly teams and register for support
  • Ask questions in a calm, welcoming environment
  • Connect with other new students
  • Learn about all the support available to enhance your student experience

Whether you're looking for advice, community, or just a biscuit and a chat—we’re here to help you settle in. We are excited to welcome you!

Please Note - No booking is required, this is a Drop In event - but if you do want to book using this Eventbrite, you will get email reminders, updates if there are any changes, and it can help us plan for numbers so the biscuits don’t run out!

Frequently asked questions

What if I haven't disclosed a disability, mental health condition or learning difference?

Even if you haven't previously disclosed a disability, mental health condition or learning difference - if you feel that you would benefit from the support of Student Wellbeing and Disability Advice Teams - this is a great opportunity to chat to our staff in a quiet, accessible space.

Do I have to take part in the games and activities?

Not at all - they are there as an invitation - sometimes it can be nice to stay a while and chat with staff and other students whilst playing a game or being involved in a craft activity - but there is no pressure to do that.

Will there be a quiet and private space to ask questions?

Yes - we will have quiet and private spaces in the main room where our staff will be available to have a chat so you can ask questions and get the information you need. We’ll also be providing links to register with our services to ensure you can then be offered further appointments.

Can I bring other people to the Get Connected space?

Absolutely - if you are with family or someone supporting you to move in they would also be welcome and can ask questions about our support as well. If you have already met some friends in your halls, they can also find out about our support too.

Will there be a quieter bespoke campus tour available?

Yes, there will be small campus tours on Saturday and Sunday that will be run by Student Ambassadors in collaboration with Disability Advice and Student Wellbeing and can be booked in advance - more information will follow about how to book. These will have a maximum of four students per tour.

Where exactly is the event being held ?

The event is being held in the downstairs Common Room of the University of Portsmouth Student Union building. There will be two entrances - one leading into the building from Cambridge Road, and the other leading in from Gun House Green. There will be Student Ambassadors to help you find your way.
