Welcome to Off-Road Wheeling

Recognising that access to suitable equipment is a huge barrier, we are holding a 'Welcome to Off-Road Wheeling' day deep in the Wye Valley Woods. We are bringing together wheelchair users, off-road mobility equipment suppliers, wheelchair rambling enthusiasts, access groups and walking and cycling groups.

This is your chance to try out different off-road wheelchairs, including Mountain Trikes, Terrain Hoppers and Trampers in the beautiful woodland setting of Whitestone Picnic Site, near Tintern. Chat to staff from Terrain Hoppers, Experience Community and the Disabled Ramblers.

It's also an opportunity to join in the conversation about how we can make the Wye Valley National Landscape more accessible and work towards our long-term aspiration of setting up an accessible hub, where anyone can hire an all-terrain vehicle, with training and mechanical support on hand.

If you would like to try out the off-road wheelchairs BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL, so make sure to book a time slot. If you don't require a wheelchair demo slot please book a General Admission ticket.

Timetable

11am Welcome to off-road wheeling opens

You are welcome to arrive at any time during the day. Tea and coffee and cake will be available or bring a picnic to make a day of it and enjoy these wonderful woods.

If you want to try the out off-road wheelchairs you will need to book on to one of the timed slots which last for 1 ½ hours approx, giving you the chance to have a go on the different types available. Slots will run:

11am-12.30pm, 1pm-2.30pm and 2.30pm-4pm

The event closes at 4pm

Who will be there

Experience Community CIC

Craig Grimes and his team will be on hand to answer any questions you have about off-road rambles and will have Mountain Trikes for you to try.

Terrain Hoppers

Debbie and her team will be on hand to chat about Terrain Hoppers, with two models available for you to try on the day – their Overlander 4ZX and their Flatlander Models. If you like what you see, book for the Sunday short walk option at Townsend Farm, Ross on Wye, for a longer try out.

Disabled Ramblers will also be attending with a Tramper, another type of off-road wheelchair for you to try.

Wye Valley National Landscape

The team will be on hand to help you get the most out of the day and to help with any queries you may have.

Facilities

· Parking is available on site, volunteers and staff will direct and show you where to park

· Portable wheelchair accessible toilet will be available on site at Whitestone

· Tea, Coffee and Cake

What to Bring

If you are staying all day please bring a packed lunch.

Suitable clothing for the weather. Long trousers/socks advisable as tick’s can be an issue.

Please be aware that mobile phone signal is patchy in the area.
