Description
This one day course provides a complete understanding of when a European Economic Area national is entitled to welfare benefits and tax credits.
By the end of the course participants will:

Know who is covered by European Union law

Understand the different residence tests for different benefits

Know which groups have a right to reside

Be able to advise on the main factors that are relevant in establishing habitual residence

Understand residence rights for workers, self-employed people and people with retained worker status
-
Understand who has rights as a family member or carer

Know when someone has a permanent right of residency
-
Understand the additional restrictions which affect Croatian nationals
-
Be aware of recent developments in legislation and how European nationals are affected.
Methods of delivery
This is a practical course. It is delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, group work and exercises, case studies, group discussion and games.
Suitable for
Suitable for anyone working with non-British European nationals. Participants should have a working knowledge of the benefits system. Please note this coures does not cover the EU co-ordination rules in detail.
