Description

The WELL Building StandardTM – the daylight requirements by Dr Cosmin Ticleanu, Principal Consultant: Lighting, Fire and Building Technology Group, BRE.

The WELL Building StandardTM (WELL) is the first standard to focus exclusively on the health and wellbeing of building occupants. It aims to improve occupants’ nutrition, fitness, mood, sleep, comfort and performance by addressing seven wellness concepts: air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind. The Light concept aims to minimise disruption to the body’s circadian system, support good sleep quality, enhance productivity and provide appropriate visual comfort. It covers aspects of electric lighting, daylight and shading, controls and room surfaces. This presentation discusses the WELL Light concept with an emphasis on the criteria related to daylight.

Climate-Based Daylight Modelling (CBDM) for Health & Wellbeing by Andrew Bissell, Director of Light4, Cundall.

A workplace which supports and promotes health and wellbeing must have daylight as its primary source of light. The WELL™ standard requires equivalent melanopic lux for 4 hours at eye level at each desk, and other techniques stress the wavelengths of light arriving at our eye rather than what is happening on the working plane. This presentation describes how CBDM was used in the refurbishment of Cundall’s Manchester office to evaluate both the visual and non-visual lighting quality and quantity within the re-designed space. In addition the outcomes are assessed.

Light refreshments will be available from 1.30 pm. The entrance is at the Sainsbury Wing. Large bags are not allowed and smaller bags will be subject to inspection.

Bookings will be accepted until the venue capacity is reached or until 10.00 am on Tuesday 20 March 2018, whichever comes first.
