Wellbeing Champion Training

Wellbeing Champions care about where they live and work and understand the importance of talking about mental health and well-being. This training is for anyone, but especially useful for organisations such as schools, businesses, charitable or community organisations. For more information regarding the Norfolk & Waveney NHS Talking Therapies Service, click here.

Training

The training is 1 to 1½ hours long with a break, and offers basic education about mental health, why people may struggle and signs you may notice when someone is having a hard time. You will also learn how you might approach someone and start a conversation. Finally, you will learn about the Norfolk & Waveney NHS Talking Therapies Service and how we can offer support so you can effectively signpost. You will receive a PDF booklet and information document afterwards covering content from the training, including information about us and other local services, as well as some resources to use in your workplace, business or other community setting.

If you would like to improve your understanding of mental health and create a supportive and mental health positive environment in your communities, becoming a Wellbeing Champion may be for you.

Support available for you

As well as the resources provided, you can contact us at any time with questions about the service or information we covered, further workshop opportunities and anything else related to mental health.

Feedback from previous sessions:

  • “It was a good guide of how to support people experiencing emotional difficulties using different strategies and conversation points. The course has also allowed me to find out more about the wellbeing service and different services it has got on offer.”
  • “I think this worked very well! Often these training courses can be quite intimidating for those who are not "professionals" as such, but they were so relatable as people they instantly put me at ease.”
  • “This was an amazing online training both in terms of information and presentation. The principles you’ve laid out have strengthened and transformed my understanding of wellbeing and given me a foundation in how I can support people in my communities.”
  • “As an anxiety sufferer myself joining a zoom session was daunting but I was instantly put at ease and made to feel welcome. I thoroughly enjoyed it and know I can take those skills to my work (and even use them with my family!)”
  • “It would be very beneficial for the volunteers I manage.”

Managing experiences like depression, anxiety and stress can leave you feeling isolated and unsure of yourself. Talking to a counsellor or therapist and learning new skills for coping can be very helpful, but for many people the opportunity to engage with their community and meet new people is also a vital part of their recovery process. We host varied social opportunities for people living in Norfolk & Waveney, the socials cover a range of activities based around the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’; a set of evidence based recommendations that, when followed, can improve your mental health and wellbeing.. We also recruit and support our amazing Wellbeing volunteers, deliver non-clinical training such as our Wellbeing Champion Training, run stands at events and network with other organisations, charities and businesses in the local community.
