About this event

Business • Startups

Money guidance work can be very demanding. The impact of the inherent challenges on our wellbeing can be costly to us, our team and our wider organisation. Self-care and wellbeing are no longer self indulgent luxuries, they are essential practices to prevent burnout.

  • Does your work include an element of money guidance? Eg: social work; youth work housing support; mentor, food bank volunteer, family support etc…..?
  • Does the work impact you emotionally, physically or mentally?
  • Would you like to meet with other money advice practitioners and share your experiences about the joys and challenges of your work?
  • Would it be helpful to learn and apply simple and effective stress management and Mindfulness based tools that can reduce pressure and build resilience?

Overview

Each hour-long online session is a stand alone. You can come to as many or as few as will benefit you. They will be delivered in a friendly, relaxed and informal style, and will include talking and listening, journaling, and trying out practical tips and tools for wellbeing. All of them will facilitate conversations about the joys and challenges of money guidance work, and each session will focus on a specific element of wellbeing

Sessions will be facilitated by mental health practitioner, mindfulness instructor and ex money guidance volunteer Jenny Smith. www.jennyrosesmith.co.uk

The Money Guiders Programme

Money Guiders is provided by the Money and Pensions Service. It is a programme which seeks to help money guidance practitioners improve their knowledge, skills and confidence. Everything that the Money Guiders programme offers centres around the Money Guidance Competency Framework - it's there to help you better understand the full breadth and depth of money related issues that fall outside of the regulated financial advice service sector - the things you talk to your customers about.

Before attending the session, you could:

  • Try out our money guidance confidence checker, to find out how you feel about the conversations you have with customers about money
  • Spend some time considering the challenges you face in your work, specifically when you provide help and guidance to your clients or service users around money issues.
  • Consider how you spot potential problems, how you can start conversations about money in a sensitive way and at an appropriate time?
  • Think about how you can maintain good boundaries in your role as a money guidance practitioner within your main area of work?
