Description

Discover the Seven Habits of Mentally Healthy People, and the importance of 'composure' to restore or maintain our emotional wellbeing.

Have you ever found yourself reacting to your thoughts and feelings in ways that feel out of control, or disproportionate to the situation? Are you what might be called a 'mental time traveller' - you spend a lot of time doing things automatically but your mind is busy thinking about things that have happened in the past or worrying about what might happen in the future? 'Composure' is about being present in your everyday life, being mindful of what's happening in the here and now, responding rather than reacting to our thoughts and feelings.

In this workshop we'll explore ways to connect with our inner peace and spirituality, including an introduction to mindfulness and how to apply this in your daily life. You'll learn about breathing, short guided meditations and simple mindful exercises you can practise yourself.

Facilitated by Carolyn Barber, co-director of the Good Mental Health Cooperative, this is the second of a series of Wellbeing Workshops this autumn to explore different aspects of our mental wellbeing, and share information about the new Mental Wealth Academy project. These will be followed by a seven week personal development course starting in January 2020.

By registering your name and email address for any workshop, you agree to be added to the Good Mental Health Coop mailing list. Personal contact information is gathered for the sole purpose of communications via our email newsletter site hosted by Mailchimp. You can easily unsubscribe at any time. Details remain confidential and will never be passed on to any third party except as required by UK law.

About the Mental Wealth Academy

The Mental Wealth Academy supports people to access community based activities and workshops which help with inclusion, recovery and good mental health. The support is intended for people who have experienced serious life challenges, are socially isolated, anxious or lacking in confidence. This may include experience of mental ill-health, addictions, disability, bereavement, caring responsibilities for example.

At the Good Mental Health Cooperative, we believe that connecting with others, and informal learning opportunities, are really important steps to good mental health, bringing a sense of inclusion and challenge, rather than feeling isolated and lacking in purpose.

This is an introductory programme, with funding provided by the Big Lottery for the free workshops and courses.
