1pm - 2pm, Professor Jim Smith, Wellcome Trust

A major visit from the Wellcome Trust is taking place on the afternoon of the 26 May 2017.Professor Jim Smith joined the Wellcome Trust as the new Director of Science in late 2016. He will lead a high-level overview talk, where he will update and seek input on his plans to develop a science funding strategy for Wellcome. He and colleagues will also give an update on other recent major developments including the development of priority areas, the new innovations strategy and changes to career schemes.

2pm - 3.30pm, Parallel workshops

1) Early Career Researchers session, aimed at non-clinical and basic researchers at career stages up to and
including recently appointed lecturers, covering Wellcome Fellowship and Seed Award schemes and career Pathways.

2) Innovation session covering the new Wellcome innovation strategy, which includes a new call –
Innovator Awards – and opportunities for existing Wellcome Trust award holders to gain additional funding for early translation through pilot and proof of concept awards.

3) Humanities and Social Sciences session, aimed at all researchers undertaking health-related research in the humanities and social sciences, covering all funding opportunities in these fields.
